Honda CBR1100XX Blackbird

Hauling the Blackbird off the centrestand is one of those things that actually seems far harder than it is, but it’s approached with trepidation the first time anyway. No problem, balanced on the sidestand and swing a leg over the surprisingly low seat. In a typical Honda way, everything fall exactly where you would expect and hope it to be. the instruments are clear though slightly dated in layout, the bars are just the right height and reach and the mirrors give a pleasing view of the scenery behind me with barely an elbow in sight. So on board and comfortable it’s time to get moving.
Start the engine. Check that the tacho is actually registering and that the oil light has gone out. There is a little noise, its true, but no vibration whatsoever. This really is like a jet. There is an immense feeling of potency from the 1100cc engine but it is so incredibly smooth. I am impressed. Pull in the pleasantly light clutch, engage first and pull away. At any revs at all. There is a huge amount of low down torque and the transition from stationary to urban speed limit is almost instant. While we’re talking about outright performance, it’s probably worth mentioning that the Super Blackbird, even in this stealth colour scheme, is not radar invisible. We know because we tested it, fortunately without the benefit of a ticket afterwards – the wonders of a controlled environment.
On the move and it’s time for a cliché. The weight simply disappears. And it’s true – the weight really does stop being an issue as soon as the Blackbird is moving. What seems unwieldy and threatening at a standstill becomes stable and reassuring at town speeds and even more stable and reassuring at Autobahn speeds. And when it comes to Autobahn speeds, the big Honda has it right. I sat at well over 130mph for just about a full tank of fuel. Just because I could. The Blackbird didn’t even break a sweat. And I was perfectly relaxed – exactly the way you want to be when you’re going somewhere in a hurry and don’t want to be completely strung out when you get there.

So we invest in such bikes and recover our costs easily,' Johnny Gonsalves, who rents bikes, told IANS.

'As soon as a new model hits the market, we buy it. Though we have to invest a lot in these bikes, but as the season approaches, we recover every bit of it,' he added.

Starting from Yamaha's Fazer, YZF-R15 and FZ series to Hero Honda Karizma to Bajaj Avenger and latest models of Bajaj Pulsar are available on rent. These bikes cost Rs.70,000-Rs.90,000.

According to Gonsalves, the rentals soar in December and January and can go up to Rs.1,000 per day.

'December and January are the peak season when the influx of tourists is more in the city. That time rentals of these super bikes easily go up to Rs.1,000 a day while for a Honda Activa it can easily go up to Rs.500 which otherwise is available for Rs.200 per day,' he said.

Roland Sands' La Palma

File this in the “Unfounded Speculation” department.  John Farris (@johncfarrisjr on Twitter), Marketing guru at Brammo, just tweeted: roland sands is in the house (of brammo).

Roland Sands is a past 1998 AMA 250GP National Champion road racer who turned his focus onto motorcycle design and has appeared on Biker Build-Off on the Discovery Channnel, ESPN2′w Chopper Nation, and numerous other shows featuring his designing talent.

What is he doing at Brammo?  Is the next iteration of the Enertia going to include some Roland Sands-inspired influence? Or is Brammo’s absence from this month’s Mid-Ohio eGrandprix due to some radical redesigns of the Brammo TTR?  Given the pic below, and the results here, it’s an exciting possibility.

British Superbike

All those assurances about the Formula 1 race definitely happening must be, err, lost on the internet somewhere because Donington Park has not only lost the F1 and MotoGP plots but also now the British Superbike championship.
Donington Park, one of the circuits on the BSB calendar which wasn't owned by Jonathan Palmer/MSVR, entered into administration last month. 2009 saw several race meetings cancelled and, according to organisers MSVR, the BSB round was only confirmed as going ahead just eight days before the event, which was "quite unsatisfactory" and "clearly unacceptable for the teams, series organisers and spectators."
So Donington is out and Croft circuit gratefully comes back on the September 10/11/12th weekend. Cadwell Park also benefits for a second bank holiday bonanza on May 21/22/23 (which joins its traditional August holiday meeting).
MSVR Chief Executive Jonathan Palmer said; “It is very important for the teams, our broadcast and commercial partners and above all the fans that we prepare a calendar consisting of venues where there is no doubt about whether or not the event will actually take place. The prospect of a second event at Cadwell Park in May will I'm sure be great news for the many thousands of fans that already flock to the August Bank Holiday meeting.”

2008 Honda CBR1000RR

Now sold under Yamaha's Star Motorcycles banner, engineers grappled with the concept of a rebirth of a legend. Star is positioning the new VMax at the edge of the expressive/aggressive personality of the modern cruiser category. As such, they use terms like hot rod, muscle, power and respect to describe what the VMax represents.
To make sure Star was hitting its target audience, they conducted extensive market research with focus groups. Owners of the previous generation (which have an average age of 45-plus years) insisted a new version should have improved handling, increased power, a better riding position and continued use of shaft drive. And they were adamant for Star to use a V-Four engine and "keep the V Boost!" Read More...

2010 Ducati Hypermotard 1100 EVO

The Mores racetrack the throttle response is direct but I can still use all available power often which makes the Hypermotard EVO a very entertaining ride. The new engine revs up a little quicker than the old one and I race through the six speed gear box down the straight. The Hypermotard’s main advantage is its ability to carry lots of corner speed and accelerate out of tight corners like a bat out of hell. The EVO SP even more so as it’s got a full 30mm more ground clearance and supreme suspension from Marzocchi and Ohlins while the EVO must settle for a shorter Marzocchi fork and a Sachs mono shock. The 1100 EVO still rides like a dream around Mores but the EVO SP is something else altogether.
The 50mm Marzocchi fork on the SP is derived directly from Supermoto racing and with 195mm (165mm on the EVO) of wheel travel it’s truly the business. The fork stanchions are also covered with the anti friction material DLC (Diamond like coating) normally only found on exotic superbikes. The SP rear suspension is an Ohlins shock as we are familiar with on Ducati’s S models. All suspension on both bikes is fully adjustable Read More...

Now in its fourth generation, the 2009 machine builds on the heritage of blistering pace and supreme control set in 2003 by the first CBR600RR. Royal Enfield Woodsman EFI

Maybe it's my age, maybe it's the slippery state of the roads, but all of a sudden the prospect of riding a bike that doesn't beg to be ragged (just ridden), is starting to appeal. I confess I find this quite alluring in a weird way. Anyway...

Unveiled at the NEC Bike Show on 26th November, the Royal Enfield Woodsman EFI is the latest UK-designed variant of Royal Enfield's Bullet to be powered by the new fuel-injected unit construction engine and is new for 2010.
Like the original Woodsman, which was produced by Royal Enfield between 1955 -'59 and sold in the USA under the Indian brand, it is a 499cc Bullet single with high bars and a raised exhaust. However, there the similarities end, because the new Woodsman also features a solo seat, handy mini luggage rack, rear set footrests and an alloy bash plate too.
Routed around the machine's left side (standard exhausts run along the right side) the high level system is lighter than the original part and has been re-engineered to work in harmony with the engine management unit, allowing the engine to breathe more freely and creating the classic 'British single' exhaust note.
Introduced to comply with tough new European emissions regulations, the all-new 499cc engine retains bore and stroke of 84mm x 90mm, but with electronic fuel injection by Keihin of Japan and a 5-speed gearbox. This is operated via a 7-plate wet clutch, so it is both light and accurate. Power output is 28 BHP in standard form with 41.3 Nm of torque at 4000rpm and tested under Euro 3 conditions the engine returns just under 80 mpg, which means an impressive tank range of over 200 miles before switching to reserve.
Due in dealers' showrooms in the New Year, the Royal Enfield Woodsman EFI will sell for £4,699 on the road. Read More...

Another Giant Motorbike: The super-heavy 10-foot high Monster Motorbike

The super-heavy 10-foot tall motorbike can crush cars in first gear, though it has a 6-speed Allison automatic borrowed from a prime mover, powered by a "Detroit Diesel engine, just in case you need to clock up some highway kilometers.

It also uses a 2-speed Eaton differential from a road train to drive a massive chains on both sides of the spectacular rear wheel.

We're not sure if the Monster Motorbike is capable of popping wheelies and monos, but crushing Commodores is an impressive party trick.

Like the huge body and girder-like front swing-arms, the wheels on the Monster Motorbike are also larger than life. Normally used on Caterpillar's mining trucks prevalent in Western Australia, where they can cart around 300 tonnes of rubble, the wheels on the Monster Motorbike have custom rims finished in white, which adds greatly to the bike's aesthetic. As do the dripping blood decals. Read More...
